This pours a velvety black, and that smoothness is reflected again on the palate. This is no doubt full-bodied, but it comes all from the oat malt, not the alcohol. That keeps this beer from falling into the Russian Imperial style where the weight becomes overwhelming. Wonderfully comlpex flavours of all things dark and roasty like dark chocolate, coffee, toffee, and toasted biscuit. The palate is underscored with a bitter streak and washes up with a dry finish, allowing those flavours to fade out gracefully.
I’m yet to find a more quintessential oatmeal stout.
