Little Engine has undertaken the task of identifying and cataloguing the different clones of Pinot Noir in the Okanagan Valley. This project has allowed them to specify how the different clones express themselves in wine, and with that knowledge, dial in their blending of different clones to create wines with a high degree of typicity.
The Gold is their most serious, Burgundian style of Pinot Noir. A nose of red fruit, cranberry and tart cherry especially. That fruit continues to the palate, where it is joined by forest floor and mushroom. The tannic structure is the star of this wine, not by abundance, but by brilliance. Those bright, grippy tannins and clean acidity hold firm through the lengthy finish, with a touch of black tea on the end. This is the 2019 vintage, which will be best consumed now through 2025.
