Chiaretto means “pale”, and is an Italian rosé coming from the area surrounding Lake Garda, near Verona. This Bardolino indicates that this is a rosé version of a red wine, as such it is made from all red grapes. On the palate this presents differently from your usual Provence style rosé. Tart cherry comes through along with a floral element that is distinctly *not* rose petal. There is quite a lively acidity as well with some lemon and raspberry notes, and a mild funky, savoury, tannic element on the finish, making me almost think of an orange wine, but waaay less intense.
