Quarter cask refers to a smaller size cask used in the aging of this whiskey. The effect is that with greater surface area of liquid to wood, the presence of oak is amplified over a shorter period of time. Laphroaig is heavy on peat, with mellow honeysuckle, tobacco, apple, and toasted wood mid palate notes and a saline like finish.
