April Beer Club

April Craft Beer Club

April Showers & Shower Beers

You never forget your first Shower Beer.  For me it was a Peroni in Italy in 2013.   Since then I’ve been an avid fan of the concept.  It’s a very freeing pastime.  I’ve tossed and turned on the idea of doing a shower beer pack for the beer club, mostly because I wanted to be sure to do it justice!  So here are my picks based on a few scenarios that may inspire the desire for a Shower Beer; may they serve you well.

Side note: After having written this I’ve noticed that I used an em dash in one of my paragraphs, something which ChatGPT uses frequently.

I would like to state that as long as I am handling the content for Unwined, whether it be newsletters, social media, website descriptions, or anything else,

AI will never be used.

The beer club releases on the third Saturday every month. There is no sign up for our beer club, just drop by the store any time we are open and pick up a pack!  The price will be between $20-$24

Prairie Pils

Pilsner

Pile O’ Bones Brewing Co.

My first shower beer was a pale lager, so I figured that would be a fitting start.

And yes I can here you saying “buuut Eric, this is a Pilsner, not a Pale Lager” and let me tell you that they’re basically the same thing, and while this beer uses pilsner malt, it doesn’t use Saaz hops so it’s only like half pilsner anyway.

Maybe that’s why it only say “Pils” on the label…

I digress.

This is made from 100% Saskatchewan grown ingredients, and while we tease our neighbors for their vast stretches of nothingness, they do have some great grains, and those make great beers.  This is your baseline shower beer.  As we go through the club there will be other, more situational beers, but this is the one that fits any hour of the day, any day of the week.  It’s exceptionally clean drinking, and it pairs well with getting clean.  It’s that simple.

Daughters of Silence

Coffee Wafer Blonde

Small Gods Brewing Co

So, imagine its a long weekend, maybe Sunday morning at around 11am.  Maybe you’ve already had one coffee, and you kinda want another, but you also feel as though you should yaknow, get up and get on with the day, on the other hand, there’s nothing you really need to do today.  Enter the Coffee Shower Beer.

When it’s one of those days where there’s nothing going on, and therefore nothing stopping you from having a beer before noon, this is the kind of thing to get you inspired to get on with a project.  Think things like cleaning the car, tuning up the bike, or baking some treats for the week ahead.  Let the motivation come naturally, and if it  doesn’t come at all, so what?  You’ve still got a beautifully roasty and malty coffee blonde to enjoy and nothing can get in the way of that.

Dat Juice

Citra Pale Ale

Twin Sails Brewing

This is your rejuvenation shower beer.  Whether it’s a day out on the trails, or in the garage cleaning out junk, this is the beer to reach for when it’s all done and you need something to get freshened up inside and out.  Dat Juice is a rare single hop pale ale, showcasing Citra hops in their unfiltered glory.  Citra really was the tip of the spear that redefined how the hop profile of a beer could be expressed - ushering in an era of juicy, hazy, beers.  Its namesake comes from its ability to deliver concentrated amounts of the aroma compound citronellol, which translates to an intensely juicy sweet citrus note in the beer.  As there are no other hops at work in this brew, that citrus note is the only thing playing, and it plays loud.

So far the shower beer picks have been posed as idyllic situations.  The water is the perfect temperature, violins serenade you, and butterflies float gently in the steam.

Some days aren’t like that.

Some days you get a flat tire in the rain.

Some days make you think “Why did I even get out of bed today?”

This beer is for those days.

Oat brings a unique texture to beers, one of pillowy plushness.  This beer utilizes both flaked and malted oats, which when paired with lactose, produces an undeniable creaminess.  It’s that creaminess that feels like a warm hug while letting the water rinse clean your tribulations.  Double dry hopping brings stone fruit and tropical aromas and raises this to 7% which doesn’t hurt either after a crappy day.

This is the antithesis to our first beer.  It’s not for everyday, just those days.
