The taste of Masticha resin is largely unknown in Central Europe and it cannot be compared with other flavours. Mastic is a resin extraction from the Skinos trees, which only grow on the island of Chios. The bark of the logs is scratched so that the resin can drain off. The mastic resin is said to be stomach-friendly. It is very popular in Greece and is a strict, non-syrupy drink, whose predominantly characteristic flavour and taste is the combination of mastic and citrus fruits. It is best served neat or chilled, but without ice, as this would change its taste.
